Kyotee was a UK Business Directory, and the first web application I built.
I started this project in 2001 with a friend, and it quickly grew into a profitable business. We automated everything we could, which allowed us to spend very little time maintaining the site.
At it’s peak, the site was bringing in more than £60,000 annually with around 8,000 unique visitors daily, and only required around 1 hour of maintenance work per week.
We branched the code from Kyotee, re-skinned and modified the functionality, and released The Business List - a business directory that was focussed on a worldwide audience rather than just the UK. We automated every aspect of this site as an experiment, and although it wasn’t as successful, it still provided us with an automated income stream.
